    Castro Valley Invitational

    Danny wins CV Invite.jpg

In a war of D-IV powers, Piner edged Yreka 98-102 in the boys' varsity race at the Castro Valley Invitational. Northgate's Danny Stalters won his 6th invitational of the season. As a note, Stalters ran 15:58, a time that has been bettered only 4 other times on this course in the last 38 years. The runners who are the top 5 are
    1. 15:25 Calvin Gaziano (Castro Valley) 1984
    2. 15:51 Wyatt Landrum (Liberty) 2008
    3. 15:57 Jon Stevens (Mission San Jose) 1997
    4. 15:57 Yong-Sung Leal (Arroyo -- San Lorenzo) 2000
    5. 15:58 Danny Stalters (Northgate)
    6. 16:00 Celedonio Rodriguez (Elsie Allen -- Santa Rosa)

The girls' race saw D-I Granada beat out D-II Casa Grande in a dual meet score 25-47. The individual honors went to Santa Rosa frosh Delaney White who put on a late sprint to separate herself from pack to win in 19:35 (#21 All-Time on the course).

That 15:25 by Calvin Gaziano is unbelievable. I can confirm that the Canyon MS course is TOUGH! When you break 16 on that course, you join a very elite group of runners and Gaziano was 35 seconds under that. I know that no records are untouchable but that has held up for close to 30 years.
