    didn't realize hawthorne was so strong on the girls' side--essentially they were the lb poly of the 80s...

    That 4th place discus thrower was Candy Roberts from Don Lugo.

    Hawthorne was LB Poly in those days. Setting National records.
    The became a power under Kye Courtney, Archie Amy and Coach Kelly. The matchup for the State was between Hawthorne and Berkeley. Poly, Muir, Compton were also strong at that time.
