Which Long Jump Board is best?

Looking for advice as to which boards to install on our new long jump runways. 8"? 18" We've been told 8" is most common, go with that. But some of the schools in our league have wider boards. Any jump gurus want to voice an opinion?

The 8" board is more widely accepted among rule books. As a horizontal jump coach, I find kids get too complacent about their approaches with the wider boards because "I'm on the board" even it they're 18" behind where they ought to be. The 8" board minimizes that.
