    Request clarification of Track Preview

Can someone clarify what is being discussed at the bottom of page 24 of the CIF track preview http://www.cifss.org/wp-content/uplo...ew16-track.pdf

If I am understanding this correctly, after marks have been submitted to CIF for your top 3 and possible at-large marks a school may petition (or will it be done for you) that your mark be given a wild card if it falls within the top 10 marks submitted at league finals?

Questions, do you petition or is it done for you? What about 2nd-3rd marks that are now being pushed (potentially) to the bottom of the list, do they get knocked off if the number of entries go beyond the cap? In sprints, does a wind aided mark beat a non wind aided mark? Meaning if someone's mark is set with a 5.0mps wind but the top 10 entries were all under 2.0mps, does that mark make the top 10? If it does, is that fair, especially if enough of those marks knock a wind legal mark out of prelims?

Not against this, just looking for clarification.

    Thanks!

This is going to put the onus on the coaches. If you, as a coach, have an athlete whose league finals mark puts him or her into the top 10 times in your division from among all the league finals' marks, YOU need to contact the Divisional meet manager in the time frame (see page 25). It's not going to be done for you. (It means going on EPI on Saturday or Sunday and looking). Realistically, this is going to be very rare (the committee could only come up with 2 individual instances in the last 5 years) and is going to affect D4 more than anyone.

In answer to your questions: it could potentially kick an event into the >54 category. Again, those big fields usually come in D1 and D2 where it's highly uncommon for a "top 10" entry not to have made the "at-large" mark anyway. Wind does not factor into the procedure. It's an attempt by CIF to include that rare athlete who, in a down year for a particular event, really ought to be in CIF.

In regards to the minimum times needed for 2nd & 3rd place at league finals, is the D2 time correct for the 100? 11.94?

The bulletin has been updated to show 11.54(11.3) as the 2nd & 3rd place minimum.
