Predicting the Boys' Sweepstakes race:

Team:
1) Vista Murrieta - (Ranked #2 in CIF SS Div 1, # 1 in Riverside County) With defending individual champion Porter Reddish VM looks to stake it's claim to IE, Riverside County and Southwestern League superiority. They should have the firepower to do so here
2) Great Oak - (Ranked #4 in CIF SS Div 1, #2 in Riv Co) Ran very well in Arizona last week but probably just a bit behind VM. Would not be a total shock to see them win it all here! Led by Kaden Lapham, the rest of the scoring group is seeming to pack up closely. If their pack can be far enough up front, they will take home the big trophy.
3) Rancho Cucamonga - (Ranked #7 in CIF SS Div 1, top team in SB County) Three time defending champions will need a major upset to make it 4.
4) Roosevelt - (Ranked #10 in CIF SS Div 1, #4 Riv Co) They won the 2nd best league in the Inland Empire but now must face the top 2 from the BEST league in the IE! Warrick is improving greatly this year and Beck should have a better race than last year here. They can challenge Rancho if the back-end scorers move up. Big drop-off after these top 4.
5) Rubidoux - (Ranked #7 in Riv Co) Improving squad that will have a very tough time doing any better than 5th. With most of the other top county squads at Clovis thay are the next up.
6) Etiwanda - (probably #5 team from SB County) Finished 3rd at Yucaipa Invite to 2 other SB teams.
7) La Sierra - (#10 in Riiv Co) A traditionally strong program starting to improve as the season rolls on.
8) Murrieta Mesa (# 14 in Riv Co) The #3 team from the tough Southwestern League has been slightly underperforming lately but this may be the time for them to step up.

Individually Porter Reddish (Vista Murrieta) is the returning champion and I see no reason to doubt that he will repeat in 2012. Omar Caro (Norte vista) has developed from an outstanding Frosh runner to one of the best in the county for his senior season and should push Reddish the whole way. Austin Esposito (Rancho Cucamonga) is the #2 returner and teammate Kevin Matthews give RC probably the best 1-2 in the race. Kaden Lapham (Great Oak) and Kyle Warrick (Roosevelt) should be in the top pack along with David Luna (Indio).
